Oxjam Ireland <oxjamIR>
"Make Music - Raise Money - Change Lives"

Welcome to the official Bebo page for Oxjam, Oxfam's newest music event.

What is Oxjam?

Oxjam is a unique music experience that aims to stage as many music events as possible throughout the month of October to raise money for Oxfam Ireland.

We're asking musicians, promoters - in fact everyone throughout Ireland - to put on all kinds of music events during the 31 days of October to raise vital money for Oxfam. There's no limit to how big or small the events are - whether you're donating your cloakroom money, a portion of your entry fee or organising a gig or club night, it'll add up to one huge, Ireland-wide Oxjam festival - raising vital money to fight poverty and injustice.

Oxjam Ireland says:
"http://www.oxfamireland.org/whatyouc... " (13 weeks ago) me too!

How does Oxjam raise money?
Oxjam is about using your talents and energy to beat poverty. By organising fundraising events with a musical theme, and/or getting sponsored to do something musical, you can raise funds for Oxfam Ireland. We've got some ideas to start you thinking about what you can do and we'd love to hear your ideas too!
So Oxjam's all about the music then?
That's a big part of it, for sure, and we hope that through Oxjam, people will become interested in the issues behind our work, too, and become more involved with Oxfam Ireland. For example: Sign up as a campaigner with Oxfam Ireland and join a worldwide movement of people wanting to do something to end poverty once and for all. Bring a petition to your Oxjam event and get others to sign up to support our campaigns too.
Can I organise an event before or after October?
We'd never stop you! But if you want to help us build the biggest-ever festival line-up in Ireland - October is the time to Oxjam.
Where does the money go?
Oxfam Ireland will use the money to support our work throughout southern, eastern and central Africa. Small amounts of money can make a huge difference - so thank you for any contribution.

Oxfam at the Festival of World Cultures

Oxjam hits the stage @ Festival of World Cultures, Dun Laoghaire, this weekend!

Come along and visit us at the Oxjam stage.

Oxjam is at the Kingston stage in the lovely front garden of the Kingston Hotel.

Look out for the large Oxjam banners on the stage and all around the garden. Oxjam volunteers will be the ones wearing the black Oxjam t-shirts.

Music on the Oxjam stage starts at 13.00 on Saturday (till late) and 13.00 on Sun (till late).

Oxjam artists include Lisa Hannigan (19.30 Sun) and Andy Irvine (Sat 19.30)

Oxjam will also feature in the global village beside the Oxfam fair trade shop. Here you can sign up to get involved, collect a tool-kit, see blown-up photos of previous gigs, buy Cake Sale merchandise and you might even hear a live tune or two.

See you there.

Oxjam Music Event Organisers (MEOs) wanted!
Oxjam Music Event Organisers (MEOs) wanted!
From Aug 1st – Oct 31st

Oxjam volunteers are pretty inspiring folk. This year we're looking for people with that extra bit of sparkle to lead the party.

All around the country, regional volunteers will be at the centre of the action, spreading the word in their local music scene and coordinating events as part of one big festival.

Right now, we're looking for Volunteer Regional Coordinators all over Ireland.

The role will be demanding but also great fun, a fantastic way to make new music contacts as well as new friends. Needless to say, it makes for top CV points too.

You'll start by helping members of the public put on Oxjam fundraising music events. And for bringing Oxjam to life in your area.

You'll also be invited to a fun induction training day in Dublin, an Oxjam day jam-packed with expert advice and tips for organizing events.

You'll need to have:
Some experience working with teams, clubs or societies
Enthusiasm, creativity and a 'can do' attitude
Good written and verbal communication skills
Ability to multi-task and a passion for music

This is a new, exciting opportunity and one that will be instrumental to the success of Oxjam 2008. You'll be breaking new ground while doing this work and will have personal support from Oxfam Ireland HQ.

If you have any questions contact oxjam@oxfamireland.org or call 01 6350 434

Boy # 7
Hullo. We're Boy #7 and we're from Donegal. Last year we played in and won the national final of the Hot Press/Youth Work Ireland Seven Steps Up band competition in the Sugar Club, Dublin. We'd absolutely love to help out with the fundraising in any way we can, preferably musically. If we can muster the initiative to organise a gig, we might, but just in case, could you give us a shout if any gigs come up in the Ulster area, preferaly Donegal/Derry/Tyrone? Please and Thank You.

CITIZEN SNIPS!!!,
Boy #7
